Fitness center
Henry Mayo Fitness and Health is a state-of-the-art facility that offers personal training, group fitness classes, and basic gym amenities. Committed to helping community members achieve optimal health, the facility's amenities and trainers are available at affordable membership rates. The facility acts as a total health & fitness resource for members, providing safe training techniques, wellness education, and nutritional counseling for all interested clients. Henry Mayo Fitness and Health also houses Henry Mayo's outpatient physical therapy clinic and two commumity education classrooms. Almost all the community education classrooms are free and open to the community. Henry Mayo Fitness and Health is part of a growing national trend toward medical fitness facilities that are integrated within larger health delivery systems. About half of these members have at least one chronic health condition. Two key elements differentiate such centers from commercial gyms, said association president Bob Boone: medical oversight that aligns with the parent health system's current clinical approach (and broader national clinical thinking), and programs that connect with other types of care the system provides. All of the training staff are required to have bachelor's degrees in exercise science, kinesiology, physiology, along with a medically related personal training certification.
